EVANS GP LEAD THE CHARGE FOR VICTORY HEADING TO BURIRAM

May 23,2025
Back in action at Buriram, the teams return to Thailand for the first time in over half a decade in F4 South East Asia. The championship organised by Top Speed enjoyed a fantastic start to the season at Sepang in Malaysia that saw a hat-trick of victories for Vietnamese talent Alex Sawer and now the teams have moved on to the Chang International Circuit in Thailand, where this year’s MotoGP season began.

Sawer returns to the field this weekend with his beloved Evans GP squad which guided him to the triple win a few weeks ago. His team-mate remains Australian Seth Gilmore who came close to grabbing his first win in the championship during the course of that weekend. The team’s third car will once again be piloted by Thomas Yu Lee who will be the category’s only Master competitor over the weekend. This time out Chinese driver Cheng Meng will not be competing, leaving the fourth Evans GP car vacant.

There’s no change in the roster at the BlackArts Racing time run by former Grand Prix driver Alex Yoong. Inigo Anton will look to build on a solid opening weekend in Buriram, whilst the rookie will be joined by Rishon Rajeev of India once more. With these two men setting the early season pace to oppose the Evans GP duo up front, two more rookies in the paddock will suit up again for the BlackArts team. Ben Nguyen of Vietnam made a strong start in Sepang and showcased a lot of potential, whilst Singapore’s Joshua Berry suffered from a lot of bad luck in the opening event. If he can steer clear of the issues, we could have four drivers challenging Sawer and Gilmore for the victories at Chang International.

Origine Motorsport have once again fielded the experienced Wang Zhongwei who was unable to convert a reverse grid pole position into a win during the opening weekend of the season, but elsewhere a new team joins the paddock from Buriram onwards. Star Perfomance are ready to challenge the opposition after missing the first event, and their potential to spring a surprise is obvious from their incredible Thai pairing. Both stars in the karting world, Ayrton Asdathorn and Worapong Aiemwichan are ready to step up and go for glory and their previous experience both in Asia and international events have prepared them for the jump into carrs. After seeing the success of Inigo Anton in his first weekend of the year, there’s no reason why Asdathorn and Aiemwichan can’t deliver a similar spectacular result.

The three races this weekend take us closer to the real battle for the championship and will be the first of two events in the calendar, with the street race at the Bangsaen Grand Prix in the south of Thailand due on the first weekend of July.
