F4 MAKES RETURN TO SOUTH EAST ASIA FOR 2025
After a one year hiatus, the FIA F4 South East Asia Championship will run its sixth season of competition and its second under the promotion of TopSpeed. The championship that has seen several star drivers compete will once more run to standard FIA F4 regulations across the summer, using the Tatuus F4-T421 racing car powered by Abarth and with all cars running on Giti tires, with the season kicking off this weekend at Sepang near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – the venue that hosted Formula One from 1999 to 2016. Four teams have currently signed up for the 2025 season and all have a strong chance of making the podium with varying degrees of experience. Firstly, EvansGP continue to stamp their authority on Asian racing categories and for the FIA F4 SEA challenge they’ve signed four very different talents. Sawer Hoang Dat is one of Vietnam’s leading challengers in motorsport and won in two previous FIA F4 campaigns – the support race at the Chinese Grand Prix in 2024 and at Madras International Circuit in India in 2023 so is sure to be an early favourite. He’ll be joined at the squad by Seth Gilmore who competed in the FIA F4 Middle East Championship over the winter in the UAE and Qatar, FIA F4 China and UAE Trophy racer Cheng Meng and newcomer Thomas Yu Lee. Black Arts Racing run by ex-Formula 1 star Alex Yoong is set to be playing the role of fierce rivals this season, with Rishon Rajeev leading the charge after success in FIA F4 India. He’ll be joined by IAME Series Asia karting star Ben Nguyen of Vietnam, Toyota Gazoo Racing Vios Cup champion Inigo Anton of the Philippines, and Singapore’s Joshua Berry – a teenage champion in his nation’s Touring Car Challenge. During the year, expect appearances from the Pakelo Star Performance team who have bagged the talents of two young Thai drivers – Phanutkoch Asdathorn and Worapong Aeiemwichan who have won many accolades in their native karting championships, and have shown great pace in international competition in addition. Origine Motorsport compete in FIA F4 after a long reputation in Formula Regional out in the Middle East, and experienced hand Wang Zhongwei is sure to be pushing hard for success during the season. With three races to kickstart the season and no races have taken place since December 2023 this first outing of the championship is sure to provide three exciting races. The season will also visit the Sepang circuit for the final two weekends of the 2025 campaign, but not before two visits to events in Thailand – first at the Chang International Circuit at Buriram and second at the nation’s answer to Monaco: the famous Bangsaen Grand Prix on the first weekend of July.
